Product Description
The full two-hour performance of Liza Minnelli's 2009 Tony Award-winning concert, LIZA'S AT THE PALACE, is available only on this special collector's edition. This exciting midnight performance was recorded at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on October 1, 2009.
Act One features favorite songs by Ms. Minnelli, including Cabaret, Maybe This Time, What Makes a Man a Man, and My Own Best Friend. A first act highlight is Liza's special rendition of the Palace Medley, originally sung by her mother, Judy Garland, at the Palace Theatre in 1951. Liza adds a new personal musical introduction to the fond remembrance of famous vaudevillians. Act Two is very special tribute to Liza's godmother, Kay Thompson, a groundbreaking singer-dancer, songwriter, and vocal arranger/coach at the MGM studios in the 1940 s.

Liza with an "S" for Star Power
She has been a star for decades and she still delivers the goods.
As the show goes on her voice gets stronger and the decades seem to disappear. By the time she gets to "My Mammy" in the second act
it is like she has defied the laws of time and space. The voice is there. The energy, electricity, power, the remarkable acting and dancing skills make you realize there is no one like her and no one can replace her. She can still move us and show us who we are. If she succeeds we all do. Liza...long may you run.
Great DVD!

Liza is back in better form
True, her voice is not what it used to be - due to age and "smoking" - but she is entertaining though always a little needy (like her Mom?) Touching stories throughout and the recreation of the Kay Thomopson act is very entertaining and different in a nice way. Who knew that someone sweated more than I do!

liza dazzles
I just watched the dvd for the third time and I must say Liza is amazing. Sure he voice and dancing is not what it was 30 or 40 years ago but whose is. Liza shares stories about Kay that were wonderful. Kay was an amazing women and I am so glad Liza did this show for her. I must admit I am a Liza fan and have been for about 35 years. Liza is well Liza. You will be very happy if you purchase this dvd its a wonderful watch. I can see why she won her 4th Tony for this show. Now I hope she gets a Emmey nom. that would be great. GO LIZA!!!

Liza - The Unstoppable Force
I was fortunate enough to have seen this fantastic show at the Palace Theater second row center stage in New York. I have seen Liza perform live on stage over 40 times throughout the years. There has been the good and the not so good with health and personal issues. This performance is not only good it is great and one of her best. Liza shows here that no matter what comes our way in life we just deal with what we have been dealt and move forward. I am more than happy to finally have this show on full length DVD.

Still dynamic after all these years!
Liza doesn't need loud songs to touch people. When I played this blu-ray disc for my guests, there was not a dry eye in the house when she sang "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". All of us were very impressed by Liza's voice and dynamic presentation. Although she doesn't dance as vigorously as she used to, the magic is all there......the quintessential Liza poses, hand gestures and the strut.
She is certainly in good voice here and hits all the high notes. The picture quality is outstanding.

"Only One Liza"
"Liza's At The Palace" was recorded at the MGM Grand in Vegas on October 1st, 2009 and is her concert rendition of her wonderful return to Broadway after a ten year absence. The concert is divided into two parts: the first features music made famous by Liza herself including "Cabaret" as well as songs made famous by her mother Judy Garland when she did vaudeville; the second part is dedicated to Liza's Godmother Kay Thompson, an amazing performer who taught song and dance at MGM in the '30's and '40's. Liza Minnelli is now 64 years of age and if your expecting the Liza who use to strut across the stage impeccably you will be disappointed. Her voice is not up to par either. These were factors many Broadway critics pointed out in their reviews of this show. However, this is the one and only Liza and she does her best and it shows. She belts out tunes and dances to the best of her ability. Liza gives this performance her all and that is all we as an audience can ask from any entertainer. I finished watching the DVD simply mesmerized after being a Liza fan for over 30 years. There are entertainers, and then there is Liza Minnelli.

Bravo Lisa
"Liza's at the Palace"
Bravo Liza

Liza Minnelli is one talented person and no matter what anyone may think about her there is no denying that she can entertain. Her life has been quite a ride but she comes out as a star in this show. Filmed at the MGM Grand in October, 2009, this is a recreation of her Tony award winning show at the Palace Theater and it features songs by Gershwin, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Sammy Cahn, John Kander and Fred Ebb.
Here she is in top form as she sings, dances and performs. Maybe her voice is not what it was but her showmanship is top notch. It helps that the show is staged beautifully and she looks great. We forget that she is now 64 years old and we hear and see a genuine artist strutting her stuff. We also now have Liza on blu-ray which means the picture is crystal clear. Ron Lewis directed and choreographed this wonderful showcase for Liza and it is so good to have her back (and in my blu-ray player).

Liza is still the best there is
Okay, so her voice is not what it was 30 years ago. Whose is? Her showmanship is still superb and she presents a show full of non-stop entertainment as no one else can do. "Liza's at the Palace" also presents a look into Liza Minnelli the person and show business icon. She expertly covers her hertiage in a way that is both endearing and electrifying.
Her voice is at its best in "Maybe This Time," "Cabaret", "The World Goes 'Round" and "Mammy", Her interlude with "The Williams Brothers" offers dancing and songs from the 1940's and 1950's that are timeless. It's easy to imagine yourself being in an elite night club of years ago.
The show is expertly produced and staged and is completely enjoyable from start to finish. Liza receives too many standing ovations to count and she deserves them all. You will not regret for one moment buying this DVD proving beyond a doubt Liza Minnelli is a national treasure, the likes of which we're not likely to see again. You'll love her and even if you've never been a fan, you'll not be able to resist. Liza is still the greatest stage performer of them all.

Two solid hours of sheer entertainment...
Liza Minnelli looks and performs so great on this DVD, you'd think the performance took place years ago. The amazing thing is that it didn't!! With a huskier timbre in her voice and the powerful delivery she's known for, Minnelli makes us forget that she's 63, by gosh! What we're hearing and seeing is a genuine artist soaring once again to heights unfathomable. Every song, every step, every word of dialogue is a gem. If you love Liza, you'll want this one. If you don't love her, what's wrong with you, anyway??
